Started in the Summer of 2009 the Sidmouth Prayer Room (formerly Holmdale Chapel, on the street called Holmdale – opposite The Chattery).
What is the Prayer Room about?
Most of us have our own church services, house groups and regular prayer meetings. We also meet collectively at the occasional united services and events organised through Churches Together in Sidmouth (CTiS); so why bother with yet another meeting?
Inspired by the scripture; ‘if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.’ 2 Chronicles 7:14........ The vision for the Prayer Room is that it will be a space for all those who are called Christians to come to a shared location in the town centre and pray.
Everyone is welcome to come along... those who don’t usually pray are also welcome and are often surprisingly intrigued!
We usually start on a Thursday, meeting together to kick-off with an hour’s joint prayer at 7pm and then continue in non-stop prayer until 7pm on the Sunday. The time is divided into one hour slots, and people can sign up to pray for one hour or more, either to pray alone or with others. Some people prefer just to call in briefly whilst out shopping, or out and about in the town. The room is secure and well equipped.
If you have never heard of a prayer room, it is an opportunity of setting time aside to pray in your own creative way (through art, music, singing, writing a song or psalm, pacing earnestly, reflecting quietly, kneeling reverently, or crying out desperately). The best way of discovering what it's all about is to come to a prayer event. If you would like to know when the next Prayer
