I was there the moment the idea of a gospel choir for Sidmouth was first planted, and from that time on SGC has had a life of its own.  The journey has been exciting, with lots of highs and lows, but through it all there has been a tangible sense of the Holy Spirit at work among us.

The choir is open to everyone, there’s no audition and no obligation for anyone to believe what they sing is true.  There is no mission statement or particular plan for the future – nothing that might set a limit or boundary around what God might do.  

We have some amazing soloists… and some people who have trouble singing in tune.  Singing together makes us fall about laughing sometimes; we know we are different!  Although most people in the choir would say it feels like family, they probably wouldn’t think of themselves as part of a church.  However, we are in truth another facet of the Church in Sidmouth.  

Like Living Stones we don’t necessarily tick all the usual boxes, but when you find yourself in a 3-deep queue at the bar of The Swan singing ‘Create in me a clean heart O God’ with your mates (and Katy is smiling as she pulls a pint) you just know God is building his kingdom!
